Magic III is a 6-week course held each Sunday from 3:00 - 5:00 PM. Students will delve deeper into the key principles of Parlour magic as well as create, perform and be evaluated on an original magic routine. Theoretical discussions will include physical misdirection, verbal misdirection and time misdirection. This class is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to perform advanced magic giving students slightly more advanced and complex concepts, as well as principles and effects that require more involved techniques. It will combine instructor presentation, step-by-step explanation, hands-on instruction, group practice sessions and individual performance.
Course Objectives:
Practice basic handling techniques for common magic props.
Identify, Describe and Demonstrate fundamental slights.
Identify, Describe, and Demonstrate the key elements of misdirection.
Identify and Describe the key principles of Parlour Magic.
Create, Perform and Evaluate an original story line incorporating a magic effect.
All props and materials are provided.
Rich Cowley has been an Academy member since 1991 and, in that time, has “worn a lot of hats”: Video Committee chairman, Secretary of the Board of Directors, Communications Director, frequent showroom performer, occasional lecturer, and (most recently) instructor in the Academy’s Magic University. Before moving to California to join the AMA, Rich made his living as a street performer in Philadelphia for almost 15 years, becoming the second-longest-running show of its kind in the country.
