A Lock Picking Lesson For The Curious

A Lock Picking Lesson For The Curious

The Academy of Magical Arts proudly presents:

"A Lock Picking Lesson: Picker's Choice" with Bill Ragsdale

      Monday, August 29th, 2022

7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Milt Larsen Inner Circle

By popular demand, Lock Picking Lessons continue in 2022! Those who complete this lesson will join a select circle: Those who can open locks without keys!

This skill is practiced by locksmiths, magicians, law enforcement, private detectives, and at hobbyist competitions. It is almost never used by criminals as it's time-consuming, visible, and uncertain.

Attendees will work with a professional set of lock picks, locks, a table-top mount, notes, and an instructional CD. One of the locks can be adjusted as your skill level improves. At the end of the 2-hour class, you will know how to open all desk locks, most padlocks, and many door locks, and will walk away with: a pick set, a clear padlock, a CD of 3 lock picking manuals, and a four-page color lock picking summary.. It is unlikely you will be able to challenge Houdini's performances on stage. Sorry, no handcuffs!

This intimate session is limited to 20 participants so that each student may receive proper attention and instruction. Participants must be AMA members (or secondary members), age 21+ with valid ID, and in proper evening attire pursuant to the AMA Dress Code.

7:00 PM in the Inner Circle. Doors open at 6:30 PM with bar food & beverage service available at the Library Bar.

AMA member and lock picking instructor, Bill Ragsdale, began with a tinker locksmith serving rural areas of central California from a converted bus. He then worked in Las Vegas at a firm manufacturing high-security lock products for the gambling industry. These included the under-table dropbox, check trays, and slot machines. He then formed a company supplying electronic door controls and ran it for the next twenty-five years.

Bill has been with the S.A.M. 80 Jongleur's Assembly for 45 years and an AMA member for 24 years. He and member Anne Ragsdale visit The Magic Castle about once a month, traveling from Northern California. Look for them at the Owl Bar!
