About this course

Magic I is a 6-week course held from 7:00 - 9:00 PM on Mondays and will focus on basic principles of card and coin magic including forces, controls, and rudimentary palming as well as discussions involving the history and theory of magic that will allow the student to develop an appreciation for the art form.


This class is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to perform basic magic by combining instructor presentations, step-by-step explanations, hands-on instruction, practice techniques, group practice sessions, and individual performance.


Course Objectives:
Identify and Describe the key principles of Magic.
Identify and Describe the basic styles of Magic.
Practice basic handling techniques for common magic props.
Identify, Describe and Demonstrate fundamental effects.
Identify, Describe, and Evaluate the key elements of flashing.
Create, Perform and Evaluate an original storyline incorporating a magic effect.


 All props and materials will be provided.

Cydney Kaplan has performed for local and international audiences including a virtual show for the world famous Magic Castle in July 2021 as well as appearing in the Close Up Room at the Castle. She was one of three finalist for the International Brotherhood of Magic (IBM) Close Up Magician in 2021. She is respected magician amongst her peers and is passionate about helping others. She does weekly magic shows for psychiatric patients in the Hospital and volunteers at local VA Hospital doing bedside magic.
